Here we were experimenting with drawing in white on a black surface - the reverse of the normal approach. A variety of methods: drawing with a rubber or scratching with a sharp tool into a dark charcoal area; drawing with white chalk on black paper; scratching with a sharp tool onto a white card or MDF previously covered with black paint; peeling away the top surface of black; making a mid tone by abrading with sandpaper; drawing with a glue stick, then wiping white chalk over it; glueing white paper shapes onto black; drawing with bleach on black-ink-prepared paper...........and then white and black over the top........ Marvellous textures, and the difficulty of holding the scraping tools affected the way we drew.click an image to enlarge...
