The idea was to look at a piece of text through a glass object and explore how the glass caused fascinating distortions. But as usual, it was vital to take a bit of time setting up the combination of the glass and text to 'maximise the image.' Click an image to enlarge >> Working from a group of three bicycles, we made drawings on card constructed in three dimensions. The aim was to avoid too much concern about all the identifiable parts of individual bikes. Some people made drawings first, some designed the structure first and others managed to juggle the two at once! work in progress... We wanted to use white as a positive, rather than its usual subservience to black! To start, we explored all sorts of samples of white paints, papers and surfaces etc. Then there were drawings in white of white objects.....either with white chalk on darker paper or scraping/cutting away from a black painted card to reveal the white underneath. And finally, some very restrained use of charcoal following the discussion that white is only really white in relation to other tones or colours, maybe......... part two of this week's session . . . This was a very large group of bamboo plants etc. The aim was to use LINE only, in as many varied ways as possible (a bit of tone maybe added at the end.) And use an extreme format (long and thin vertical or horizontal, or an irregular shape.) Interesting to see how the shape affected the drawing........ Click image to enlarge >> |
