The second exercise was to paint some odd-shapes pieces of corrugated cardboard with black and white marks, decorations etc. We then arranged these together and drew them, focussing on the black, white and mid-tone shapes rather than identifying each piece of cardboard. But were these still abstract drawings.....?
To start with, we made gestural black marks on 6 squares of paper, re-arranged them several times until an interesting image was found, and then drew it.
